Base building upgrades
The Molecular Biosciences Building at the University of Sydney underwent a major adaptive re-use and upgrade.
The project involved extensive base building infrastructure upgrades and the complete refurbishment of approximately 4,600 sqm across multiple levels.
Known for its iconic brutalist design, the building now houses much-needed research facilities, including 400–500 Physical Containment Level 2 (PC2) wet laboratories.
The upgrades supported not only the new PC2 labs but also three concurrent refurbishment projects: the Sydney Manufacturing Hub, Anita Ho Baillie Lab, and Professor Francois Lab.
With a total project value exceeding $65 million, the works were delivered by Lendlease Constructions as the managing contractor.
