Award winning

Development and Project Management for an award-winning regional public open space (circa 24,000m2) in Gosford, featuring a sports area, community hub, play space, public art, shared street and parking areas, and amenities. Working for Hunter and Central Coast Development Corporation, the Level 6 team managed a broad, complex stakeholder group including HCCDC, Central Coast Council, the local Aboriginal Land Council, Roads and Maritime Services, Central Coast Leagues Club and NSW Police. Recognition of Aboriginal innovation, history and ongoing connection to place was crucial to the design and development of the park. Amongst the generation and management of an aggressive project program, Level 6 worked closely with technical experts to deliver a unique and engaging place, and world-first infrastructure in the form of a tidal terrace for a dynamic and ever-changing water play environment driven by the natural tidal flows. This project won the Judges Choice and Award for Aboriginal Heritage at the National Trust of Australia (NSW) and came top 5 in the Architecture + Water category in the Architizer A+ Awards in NY.

Our scope

Level 6 facilitated this award-winning public space through a variety of management functions, including:

  • Establishment of a communications plan with regular project and design team meetings.

  • Management of a broad, complex, stakeholder group. Key stakeholders include: the Hunter Central Coast Development Corporation, Central Coast Council, Local Aboriginal Land Council, Roads and Maritime Services, Central Coast Leagues Club and NSW Police.

  • Generation and management of an aggressive project program.

  • Coordination of variations to Project Brief, after the team developed a very unique concept for the use of the sea water via allowing tidal flow to enter and exit man made rock pool areas. This required extensive technical expertise and investigations into the marine environment, along with additional consultation with the client and a number of key stakeholders/authorities to 1) confirm the desire for such an aspirational proposal and 2) prove out the technical and financial viability.

  • Management of the required planning approval via the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) pathway, for HCCDC review and comment including coordination of all consultants’ inputs.

  • Management and Chairing of regular PCG meetings, reporting across all aspects of project status.

  • Coordination of the consultant team (alongside Turf Studio to whom the consultants are contracted).
